The Department of Mass Communication, National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad comprises a fine blend of distinguished professionals and young, upcoming academics. We have a set of inquisitive and enterprising students who are eager to learn, and to put to the best use, the skills acquired here in their professional careers as mass media practitioners. There is a professional, dynamic curriculum ready for them to support their ambitions. Here we nurture and produce graduates who would contribute to national growth through creative, innovative and professional use of the mass media.
M.A Mass Communication (upgraded to M.Sc Mass Communication in January 2007) started as a program in the Department of Mass Communication in August, 2003. The department has made steady progress since then. Since August 2010, the department has also started B.S (hons). It now has a complement of twenty eight full-time and adjunct teaching staff.
Up until now, 19 batches have already qualified from the department. More than 350 students are currently studying in the department. To enhance the effectiveness of the program, learning a foreign language in the fourth semester has been introduced. Presently, the students are having courses in Arabic, Chinese, French and German. Alongside the mainstream Mass Communication programs (M.Sc & B.S Hons.), the Department aims to run a special sequence of short courses in the near future for a crop of students who are mainly interested in studying radio and television production.
Campus Radio (NUML Call FM 104.6) has been working since 2006 under the Department of Mass Communication. The channel is intended to create academic, intellectual, artistic, literary and research pursuits by projecting curricular and co-curricular activities of the university in the broader perspective of Pakistan's world of learning.
